New to Zonkod? Start with the concept or try the app at zonkod.app.

A ZK: (pronounced "zik") is a single number that marks a spot on Earth to within 1.60 m. Short enough to text, say out loud, or print on a sign. No app is needed to read one.
Zonkod collects no personal data. No account, no login, no tracking across devices. Your location, saved places, and search history never leave your phone.
While we are fully confident in the ZK: calculations themselves (exact down to 0.1 mm), the app depends on many things outside our control: GPS can be spoofed, the map is collaborative and may contain errors, and your phone or browser is not certified and can crash.
This app must not be used as the primary tool when human life is at risk. It can still be helpful for hints, overviews, unit conversions, or collecting points of interest.
Great! Let's talk about it. Send an email to contact@zonkod.com.
Yes. The app is free for everyone: no account, no personal data, no tracking across devices. Large companies need a licence; everyone else gets it free. See the App Licence for details.
Tiles you have already viewed are cached and available offline. Search and geocoding require a connection. The installed app caches more aggressively for offline use.
Yes. As of summer 2026, Zonkod runs on:
If your browser is recent enough, it just works, no install needed.
Three ways to get Zonkod:
For most people, the web app is enough. Pick the mobile app if you want the deepest sharing and GPS integration.
A web app is a kind of magical web page that turns into a real app on your phone or computer. You install it from the browser, with no app store and no complicated setup. It works offline, and it updates automatically whenever a new version is available.

Open the app, find the spot, and tap Share. You can send a ZK: code, a link, or share via any app on your device: Messages, email, WhatsApp, anything.
Everything is private: no tracking number, no user ID. The recipient sees only the location.
Use the Backup feature in the app to save your markers and settings into a single .zonkod file. Keep that file in a safe place.
To restore later, use Import and pick the file. Everything comes back, and it works across platforms, from Android to iPhone and back.
Yes, fully supported. The app can both generate and read QR codes, and it is completely private: no internet needed, no data leaves your phone.
To generate a QR code, open Share on any location, then tap the QR-Code button. To read one, open Scan QR from the menu and point your camera.
.zonkod file?A .zonkod file is a compressed backup created by the app. It contains your markers and your saved settings, nothing else. You can send it to another device or keep it as a safety copy.
Yes. Open the place in the app, tap Share, then open the QR-Code dialog. On a computer, right-click the QR image and save it. You get a clean PNG with the Zonkod logo at the center, ready to insert in any document.
Anyone with a mobile phone can then scan it to jump to that exact spot.
When you park, tap the GPS button to center the map on your position, then tap Save Location. This stores the exact spot. Later, open Show Distance to see how far you are and which way to walk; the live arrow points you straight back.
Open Show Distance on any location to get a live arrow pointing toward it and a distance that updates as you move. Keep it open while walking.
